In some of the hanging gardens, Carex specuicola is the dominant species, and forms a turf- like matrix in which a number of associates occur. It is a striking species, apparently well adapted to the cliff habitat. It is very lax, almost pendulous in form – even when occurring on a flat surface, and somewhat unusual in having mostly 2 stigmas, despite belonging to a group that normally has 3 stigmas.
